Abstract

This study analyzes the content of the Annual Conventions of the Association for Advancement of Behavior Therapy for the period 1979–1990 in order to examine hypotheses about both the theoretical perspectives manifest in behavior therapy and the representation of different content areas in the field. Results indicate a strong trend away from behaviorally oriented and towards cognitively oriented presentations. Similar trends away from assessment, therapy, and professional issues and towards medical and psychopathology content were documented. Projections of the Year 2000 conference suggest that it will be neither behavioral in orientation, nor devoted to therapy issues.
