Abstract

This chapter aims to present an overview of advanced methods used in risk assessment and management of domino effects in the chemical process. This overview is mainly based on the materials that are mainly concerned with domino effects in chemical processes and available publicly. The research community has contributed numerous advanced methods for risk assessment and management of domino effects, and these methods are divided into Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) models, probabilistic modes, and other models in this chapter although there are different classification methods. According to the classification, this chapter presents a review of each type of advanced models, their general procedure and effectiveness, and the applications of the related models for addressing different issues related to domino effects covering vulnerability modeling, accident evolution modeling and risk assessment, and risk management. Based on such an overview, this chapter gives readers an understanding of the evolution of advanced methods and tools used for risk assessment and management of domino effects in chemical process industries, as well as what issues these advanced methods focus on.
