Abstract

The advanced exergy analysis (AEA) of the organic Ranking cycle-driven vapor compression refrigeration (ORC-VCR) system is carried out in this study. AEA is a method that can be used to identify the endogenous and exogenous causes of the exergy destruction taking place in the system components and thus helps in improving the exergetic efficiency of the system. The zeotropic mixture of hexane and R245fa is used in the system. R245fa is used to suppress the flammable characteristics of the hexane without compromising its thermal performance. The results indicate that 53.75% of exergy input to the system is destroyed. Further, 32.19% of the endogenousiexergy destruction rate is avoidable, to which the condenser contributes 33.42%, followed by the ORC evaporator at 22.82%.
