Abstract

Background: Herbal creams are popular among patients with skin diseases. In 2019, a Chinese herbal cream was found containing glucocorticoid, which makes us suspect that many herbal creams may contain glucocorticoid. Methods: Forty-nine herbal creams were bought online and tested by HPLC-MS-MS. Finding: Thirty-seven creams contained glucocorticoid, thirty-six of them contained clobetasol propionate. All adulterated cream were licensed as disinfection products. Interpretation: Adulteration of glucocorticoid in herbal creams may cause serious side effects.
