Abstract
On the basis of the integral equation of the adsorption isotherm, equations of monolayer and multilayer adsorption of n-component gas mixtures on heterogeneous surfaces have been derived. These equations are used for the interpretation of experimental adsorption isotherms of gas mixtures if two basic conditions are satisfied: (i) The adsorption isotherm is measured by preserving constancy of mole fractions of the components in the gas phase, and (ii) heterogeneity parameters, determined from adsorption isotherms of pure gases, are approximately equal. The equations were tested for two adsorption systems, argon—oxygen on cesium iodide at 77.5°K and argon—nitrogen on chabazite at 90°K.
