Abstract

The adsorption of para-xylene in C8 aromatica hydrocarbons was studied on cation exchanged faujasite zelite. The effect of the basicity of aromatic hydrocarbons, inonic potential of exchanged cations, and the packing oc C8 aromatics in the cavity of zeolite was examined. Paraxylene was adsorbed more selectivley with decreasing ionic potential of cation, while para-xylene was adsorbed more selectively with decreasing ionic potential of cation, while para-xylene was strongly subject to the restriction of packing in the cavity of zeolite compared with other C8 aromatics. The adsorption selectivity was determined fromt eh balance of the basicity of adsorbed components and the restriction for the packing of component molecules in the cavity of zeolite.
