Abstract

Interaction between a dihexadecyl hydrogen phosphate (DHP) monolayer and volatile anesthetic molecules (ethanol and 1propanol) has been studied using quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) method and quartz crystal impedance (QCI) method. It was found that the time-dependent behavior of frequency (QCM) and resistance (QCI) differs largely from the difference in alcohol concentration. We discussed the role of the hydrated water in common with both anesthetic molecules and DHP monolayer/water interface.
