Abstract
A kinetic study of the steam adsorption-desorption reaction on the studied polymer under different conditions of pressure and temperature showed that the hydration ratio and the adsorption reaction rate are dependent on the experimental conditions. The desorption reaction rate does not depend upon the experimental conditions (pressure and temperature). The mass of polymer sample affects strongly the kinetics of the adsorption-desorption reaction. The kinetics of the desorption reaction are not influenced by either the number of adsorption-desorption cycles or the storage time; in contrast, the kinetics of the adsorption reaction are affected by the number of cycles. Mechanisms proposed for both reactions are of pseudo-first order type, and are not affected by the experimental conditions.
