Abstract

1. 1. Catecholamines cause vasolidation in perfused dogfish gills. 2. 2. Evidence from dose-response curves and the effects of selective blocking agents suggests that noradrenaline acts through α adrenergic receptors, isoprenaline through β adrenergic receptors, and adrenaline through both. 3. 3. Plasma from stressed dogfish appears to contain sufficient catecholamine to produce a vasodilatory response. 4. 4. Acetylcholine causes vasoconstriction.
