Abstract

This chapter discusses an on-going research on adopting modular construction through the Industrialized Building System (IBS) approach in the Malaysian construction industry. Green building overall process starting from the planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance needs to reduce the overall negative impacts on its surrounding. IBS is a construction technique where components are manufactured offsite or in a factory, transported, positioned and assembled with minimal site work. In addition, prefabrication is recognized by both design and construction professionals as one of most common method to prevent injuries particularly related to hazards sustainable elements such as construction at height, confined places, overhead and with energized electrical system. The presented literature has shown the definition, benefits and approaches to achieve green building constitute positive feedbacks and challenges to the implementation of green buildings in Malaysia. There are many definitions for green building from academician, professionals and organizations from all around the world.
