Abstract
Background: Domestic adoption of children can provide an opportunity to improve the welfare of children who have no family or are abandoned. Findings: Communication that occurs in the family is a reminder that the family is the first place of support for a child to communicate in everyday life. Therefore, this research aims to conduct a bibliometric analysis of various articles regarding child adoption in family communication studies. Methods: This research uses a descriptive analysis method with data sources directly from Scopus database for 1980-2024 period (total of 818 articles) obtained using the abstract or keyword “child adoption”, processed, and visualized using VOSviewer software. Conclusion: The results show three most dominant concepts, namely child adoption, study, and communication studies. The stigma exists because child adoption is considered not to be a problem limited to the environment or trajectory in phenomena, especially in the sphere of family communication, but this situation affects the child’s development and future life. The results of this research can be used as a basis for reducing the intensity of child adoption in family communication studies. The limitation of this research is that articles discussed only come directly from the Scopus database, so they do not have comparative data. Therefore, future research needs to take a comparative analysis approach that uses the Web of Science (WoS) database and increases the period of each published article.
