Abstract

A healthy 16-year-old girl presented with a 2-day history of nontraumatic abdominal pain but no fever, vomiting, or diarrhea. Her blood pressure was 109/70 mm Hg, and her pulse rate was 125 beats/min. She had severe tenderness and rebound in the left lower quadrant. Her hemoglobin level was 10.4 g/dL, and her pregnancy test result was negative. The emergency physician performed bedside ultrasound (Figure), and the patient underwent emergency laparotomy.
