Abstract
This paper proposes a method to effectively utilize renewable energy resources to improve the voltage profile of the power distribution system. An algorithm based on the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) is used which calculates the effectiveness of particular DER to control voltage at a particular node of interest. The primary control loop generates a reactive power reference using voltage deviations and reactive power injection obtained from the identified transfer functions and the secondary control loop is $d-q$ frame-based reactive power control of respective DERs. The effectiveness of the algorithm in voltage control and reduction of tap operation of voltage regulators is validated using IEEE 123 bus test distribution feeder integrated with three 3 phase DERs.
