Administrative effects of dual role enterostomal therapists on specialty nursing practice

Abstract

Objective To research the administrative methods and effects of dual role enterostomal therapists （ ETs ） on specialty nursing practice .Methods Targeting at a harmonic development for nursing care, teaching and researching , we designed “the leader of specialty , the trainer of specialty nurses , the reformer of specialty nursing quality , the organizer of specialty nursing research and the administrator of specialty nursing resources” for dual role ETs .The wound care center was regarded as a study platform .The research was divided into three steps .The first step was from 2006 to 2007; The second step was from 2008 to 2009; The third step was from 2010 to 2011 .Quantity and quality of specialty nursing care , and research and teaching achievements during the research were evaluated and compared .Results The quantity of specialty wound care was 99 872 times for 3 222 cases.The mean healing rate was 90.06%, and the mean healing time was （31.25 ±2.94） days.Satisfactory rate of patients was 98.98%, and the incidence of adverse events was 0.03%.At the third research step, the mean healing rate was （90.78 ±0.96）%, and the mean healing time was （29.30 ±3.33） days.Satisfactory rate of patients was （99.70 ±0.41）%, and the incidence of adverse events was 0.01%, the differences were significant （F=4.976, 10.135, 15.800, 16.878, respectively;P〈0.05）.Conclusions The designed components of targeting administration are benefit to enhance quantity and quality of specialty nursing care , and can improve nursing education and research , as well as reducing the incidence of adverse events and insuring patient ’s safety.
