Abstract
Adios to a generous maestro: Friedrich Katz (1927-2010) offers an intellectual profile of the Austrian historian Friedrich Katz, scholar of Mexico, both ancient and contemporary. His contributions to the renewal of studies of the Mexican revolution were wide-ranging: from the social history of the late 19th century and revolutionary period to the analysis of the complex international relations of the period, and in particular reestablishing the role of Pancho Villa as revolutionary head of Chihuahua and as national leader.
