Abstract

Background and Aims: Adiponectin is considered a salutatory adipokine modulating glucose and lipid metabolism; low serum levels reportedly associated with MetS and obesity. However a paradoxical association between high adiponectin levels and increased cardiovascular mortality rate has been found in many studies and this is known as the adiponectin paradox (AP). To answer the question whether the AP is already present in adolescents we conducted a study with obese and lean adolescents.
