Abstract

Wind power and solar photovoltaic (PV) power are promising renewable energy generation technologies which have received considerable attention globally in recent years. Because the power output from these renewable sources is stochastic and difficult to predict and control exactly, energy storage is expected to coordinate with them to maintain stability and reliability of system. So it is necessary to evaluate reliability benefit of the system consist of multiple renewable sources considering operating strategy. The reliability evaluation models of wind power, solar photovoltaic power and energy storage which can be used in sequential Monte Carlo simulation are developed. The inherent characteristics which are deterministic to the chronological variation of power output are incorporated when modeling, including wind speed, solar radiation, energy conversion performance and charge/discharge constraints of energy storage. Finally the proposed models are applied to IEEE-RTS and MATLAB program is developed for reliability analysis. The impact on the system adequacy of capacity configuration of hybrid generating system and capacity of ES are assessed.
