Abstract

AbstractA modest housing block for a run‐down estate in Essex presented London‐based Sergison Bates Architects with the opportunity to explore the cohesive effects of an assisted self‐build scheme for a group of young tenants. Bruce Stewart describes the practice's strategic thinking behind the project and how the design intentions were, to some extent, frustrated by external forces.
