Abstract

Indian high ash coal was used for the preparation of coal water slurry consisting of coarse and fine particles in the proper proportion. Four bimodal samples were prepared with the combination of four coarse fractions such as (212 µm–300 µm, 90 µm–300 µm, 150 µm–212 µm, 75 µm–150 µm) with fine fraction of (<38 µm) in different proportion and labeled as S1, S2, S3 and S4 respectively. Additives are the guiding factor for the flow of the slurry in pipeline. These samples were tried in the presence of different additives like bio, chemical and the combination of chemical and bio additives. In this study bio additives like Sapindous Mukorossi, Saponin from Shikakai, chemical additive like different alcohol groups, and combination of bio and chemical additive like saponin from Shikakai mixed with DDAB (Di dodecyl ammonium bromide), SDBS (Sodium do decyl benzene sulphate) were used. A comparative study revealed saponin from Shikaki when mixed with chemical additive DDAB in the proportion of 0.95:0.05 by weight gives a better result of 70% of coal loading.
