Abstract

Three species of reptiles are reported for the first time from El Salvador: Coleonyx elegans Gray, Tropidodipsas sartorii Cope, and Dryadophis melanolomus (Cope). The herpetofauna of El Salvador was first summarized by Mertens (1952). Additional records were provided by Uzzell and Starret (1958), Nelson and Hoyt (1961), and Hoyt (1964). Recently, Hidalgo (1979, 1980a, b, c) has added seven snakes and one lizard to the previously known list of species. The species included here have not been previously recorded from El Salvador. Accounts of these species follow. Abbreviation for the specimens included in this report are: CG = Carlos Guillen Collection; KU = The University of Kansas Museum of Natural History.
