Abstract

In AMI network, several devices are considered as low-power devices. Their lifetime and the performance of data transmission are the major concerns. RPL is an attractive protocol for the AMI network since it is proposed for the networks which contain numbers of low-power devices. Parent selection is a vital function of RPL network where its performance affects the lifetime, average packet delivery ratio and latency. Currently, the residual energy is considered for selecting the parent node of RPL, EERA and WREERA. However, these technique cannot give a high performance of data transmission for several application of AMI since the required data reliability is not taken into the account. In this paper, we propose a new parent selection algorithm for RPL of AMI network, priority data weight mechanism with energy-efficient oriented routing algorithm (PWEERA), where the weight of importance between residual energy and ETX is adapted on the rank number and the required data reliability. As a result, PWEERA can balance the workload, high PDR and low latency. As compared to others, PWEERA gives high performance of data transmission as traditional RPL and high workload balancing performance as EERA.
