Abstract
Adaptive linear neuron (ADALINE) is a powerful estimation technique that has been used in power system applications, such as fault detection and classification, and shunt active power filter (APF). In this paper, an ADALINE based approach for control of three-phase three-wire unified power quality conditioner (UPQC) is presented. Two ADALINEs are used in the UPQC control strategy, one for load current fundamental extraction, and other for supply voltage fundamental extraction. The proposed method is evaluated through simulation studies in Matlab/Simulink environment. The ADALINE based UPQC is validated under several operating conditions. It is found that the UPQC can compensate for power quality issues, such as supply voltage harmonics, voltage sag and swell, load current harmonics, and load reactive power.
