Abstract

(Abstracted from Crit Care Med, 43:2387–2393, 2015) As one might imagine, the decision to limit life support for a loved one takes a substantial toll on the mental health of medical surrogates. Conducting an analysis of interviews with surrogates approximately 4 weeks after a loved one has died gave researchers a clearer picture of what surrogates experience upon making, and living with, this often difficult decision.
