Abstract

Abstract. Introduction. The knowledge actualization in the process of English lexical competence in translation formation proves to be an obligatory phase to prepare the students to master the translators’ strategies, techniques and abilities necessary to become professional translators, which lays the solid background for the effective world integration of Ukraine. The formation of English lexical competence according to Practical Course of Translation in the third year of study requires the corresponding methodology in teaching translators’ development. Thus, the present research is due to serve the essential theoretical and practical application for the methodology of teaching future translators to translate the lexical units from the source language (English) into the target one (Ukrainian). Purpose. The purpose of this research is defining the theoretical fundamentals of knowledge as an integral component of translator’s competence and creating the set of exercises aimed at the formation of English lexical competence in translation. Methods. The author explores and analyses modern methodological approaches of defining the components of the translator’s competence, grounds the necessity of the knowledge actualization at the English lexical competence in translation formation. The author also provides a set of exercises on the knowledge actualization targeted at the practical application at the education process. Results. In the article the notion of “knowledge” as a component of the translator’s competence in general and the English lexical competence in translation in particular are studied, the phase of future translators’ knowledge actualization during the process of the formation of the English lexical competence in translation is described in details, examples are provided.
