Abstract

SUMMARY This chapter provides an overview of licensing practices in the realm of electronic information. The role of licensing in current library organizational structures is described. The resources and tools that license practitioners use to perform effectively are reviewed. In addition, licensing issues and challenges are discussed, and attention is drawn to the ways in which the practice of licensing shapes the library and information science (LIS) profession.
