Abstract
1. 1. A glutamine synthetase assay was perfected and utilized to determine the activity of this enzyme in selected tissues of the channel catfish, Ictalurus punctatus. 2. 2. A discussion of the various factors affecting the enzyme assay is included, i.e. the proper tissue blank, ATP-regenerating system and tissue preparation. 3. 3. Enzyme activity was highest in brain tissue followed by liver, kidney and gill tissue. 4. 4. Possible physiological roles of the enzyme in fish tissue are discussed.
