AbstractThe reality, Landau, and Lifshitz conditions are reviewed within the formalism of the Landau theory of continuous phase transitions in crystals. It is shown that an incorrect use of these conditions in the literature has led to an omission of the W‐ and P‐point representations in the Oh crystal class. A detailed example for the W‐point is considered and the correct results obtained. The correct listing is given of the reality, Landau, and Lifshitz conditions for the entire cubic system (i.e., the classes T, Th, O, Td, and Oh).
