Abstract

In this paper, a new pixel design is proposed adopting the Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode (AMOLED) display, based on Organic Thin Film Transistor (OTFT) technology. Among literature, different research efforts are applied to optimize pixel circuits for best display qualities (like contrast, brightness, cross-talk elimination, etc.). Thin Film Transistors (TFTs) are used in the pixel design as a switch, and a current source to bias the Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) devices that are low in cost and temperature fabrication. However, these thin film transistors suffer from the variation in mobility (μ) and threshold voltage (VTH), which yields an unstable current, and an image poor quality after that. To overcome this problem, a new pixel design with voltage programmed technique has been designed and simulated benefiting from seven OTFTs characteristics. Compared to other efforts, one capacitor and seven transistors are used. Simulation results show a good compensation technique for a threshold voltage with error rate of 2%. The maximum OLED current is 2.55 μA which is suitable for a Quarter Video Graphics Array (QVGA) displays.
