Abstract

This controller approach describes a method for active damping of torsional vibrations in a vehicle driveline during clutch engagement. The problem of oscillations appears in a wide range of drivelines equipped with an automated clutch capacity controller, e.g. continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), automated manual transmission (AMT) or classical automatic transmission with torque converter. It does not depend on the clutch type. Drivelines equipped with both wet and dry clutches can cause this bad behavior. Here, active damping of the driveline oscillation by a wet clutch in a dual clutch gearbox using an electro hydraulic actuator is discussed. This kind of gearbox is called Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG).
