Abstract

The data in this report demonstrate that glucagon and tolbutamide, two agents that have a capacity to promote insulin release from islet cell tissue, activate adenyl cyclase in a particulate preparation of an islet cell adenoma. The administration of these agents in vivo was also associated with a rise in peripheral plasma insulin levels. These observations provide further evidence for a role of cyclic 3′,5′-AMP in the insulin release mechanism and suggest a possible mechanism for the insulinogenic actions of the sulfonylureas.
