Abstract

1. 1. Serotonin and duodenal distension inhibited basal, histamine-induced, and pentagastrin-induced gastric secretion in chickens. 2. 2. In UML- 491 and reserpine pre-treated chickens, the inhibitory effects of duodenal distension and serotonin on gastric secretion were abolished. 3. 3. In UML- 491 pre-treated chickens serotonin did not inhibit the histamine- and pentagastrin-stimulated gastric secretion. 4. 4. There is no species difference in the action of serotonin on gastric secretion.
