Abstract

The American College of Radiology Imaging Network (ACRIN) Digital Mammographic Imaging Screening Trial (DMIST) will enroll 49,500 women under a protocol that requires both digital and conventional film-screen examinations at 20 participating centers in North America during 18 months. A new clinical trials imaging infrastructure was developed to consolidate all of the digital mammographic images in a central archive at ACRIN headquarters in Philadelphia, PA. Each examination includes at least 4 views (2 of each breast) at 2K × 2.5K × 12 bit or higher resolution resulting in 10–64 Mbytes/image. Lossless compression resulted in 10:1 to 2:1 dataset reduction. Web-based forms are generated to acquire clinical information and the results of observations.
