Mycoplasma species can frequently be isolated from the oropharynx and genital tract of man [1]. The organisms found most frequently in the oropharynx are Mycoplasma salivarium and Mycoplasma pharyngis (orale type 1). Mycoplasma orale type 2, M. orale type 3, and Mycoplasma hominis are less frequent isolates. Mycoplasma pneumoniae is a proven pathogen and is isolated from the respiratory tract in association with current or recent infection.
