Abstract

A 23-year-old woman was hospitalized because of vomiting of coffee-ground material and epigastric discomfort of 3 days' duration followed by melena. She was treated with antacids at another hospital, but her symptoms persisted and she was transferred for further evaluation. Upper endoscopy showed an annular ulcer in the gastric antrum (A). Biopsy specimens showed inflammatory changes and infection with Helicobacter pylori. The patient was treated with a proton pump inhibitor, amoxicillin (500 mg twice daily), and clarithromycin (250 mg twice daily) for 2 weeks.
