Abstract

Abstract A new type of converter is theoreticaly investigated, which is based on the combined utilization of piezoelectric and electrooptic effects, and is able to convert an acoustic signal into a visible light signal. By the aid of a simplified model of the device, estimations are given for the sensitivity of the converter made from materials attainable at present. The results suggest that the converter may be used for acoustical to optical image conversion.
