Abstract

This paper gives an overview of traceability and uncertainty issues in interferometric measurements where nanometer uncertainty is the aim. It is shown that both displacement and surface interferometry are subject to similar sources of uncertainty and that techniques exist and can be applied that can quantify and reduce the error sources to within the nanometer level.
