Abstract

The degrading effect of molecular relaxation processes on the quality factor Q of acoustic resonances in an optoacoustic cell is studied for pure CH4, CH4-Xe and CH4-NH3 mixtures. It is shown that accurate measurements of relaxation times can be performed by determining the shift of the acoustic resonance frequency caused by relaxation processes.
