Abstract

A discussion is presented on accuracy limitations in the measurement of satellite communication link parameters, with particular regard to manual or automated communication surveillance systems which have been developed for international or domestic satellite systems. The measurement accuracy of a given space link parameter is derived from its equation for the total error bound. The accuracy is a function of the individual error contributions of the variables which determine a particular space link parameter. The calculated accuracies depend on the assumed magnitude of the individual error contributions and on the method of adding them. The measured accuracies have been verified by communication system monitoring apparatus installed in Australia and Brazil.
