Abstract

Summary A comparative study has been made of carbohydrates, proteins and amino acids in the bark of juvenile and mature mango plants ( Mangifera indica L.), at the time of flower initiation. It is found that there is an increased accumulation and metabolism of these constituents in the mature plants as compared to the juvenile plants. The inability of juvenile plants to form flower buds under natural conditions could, hence, be attributed to lack of sufficient reserves and their possible hormone directed redistribution and mobilisation.
