Abstract

Ayapin has been identified in sunflower plants which have been treated with 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D). Ayapin was not found in untreated sunflower plants. A quantitative procedure has been devised for determination of ayapin in plant tissue. Using this procedure and previously reported quantitative methods for scopolin and scopoletin, these three coumarins have been found to increase significantly in the 2,4-D-treated sunflower plants.
