Abstract
A new x-ray computerised tomography (CT) scanner today costs a hospital in the region of £450000. The ability to carry out thorough acceptance tests on delivery, followed up by quality assurance tests throughout the scanner's lifetime, is therefore of considerable importance; such tasks fall largely to the hospital physicist.
