Abstract

Reconstruction of 3D volumetric data from cone beam CT (CBCT) projections is a computationally demanding task. Open Computing Language (OpenCL) is an open framework for parallel programming on heterogeneous computing platforms with high performance and excellent portability and scalability. The purpose of this study is to employ the OpenCL architecture to accelerate the two most popular CBCT reconstruction algorithms: Feldkamp-Davis-Kress (FDK) and simultaneous algebraic reconstruction technique (SART) on general-purpose graphics processing unit (GPGPU).
