Abstract

Early animal embryos replicate their chromosomes and divide faster than E.coli replicates its much smaller chromosome. The control of chromosome replication in Xenopus embryos has been investigated by studying the replication of microinjected DNA. Replication of injected DNA is regulated by a cytoplasmic cell cycle clock. The pattern of regulation can be changed by the tumour promoter, TPA.
