Abstract
Abstract Poorly preserved trilobites from the Baton Formation at Baton River, New Zealand, are assigned to Acaste sp. indel and Acastella sp. indel The occurrence of these genera in both New Zealand and Victoria confirms the close faunal relationships previously recognised between New Zealand and eastern Australia for the Early Devonian, and adds to the evidence for a Lochkovian (early Early Devonian) age for the Baton fauna. At least part of the Reefton Early Devonian sequence is Zlichovian; significantly different ages for the Reefton and Baton faunas are thus indicated.
