Abstract

Abstract Cotton was planted 14 May on 40 in rows. The experiment was arranged in a randomized complete block design with 3 replications of 5 treatments. Plots were 3 rows by 40 ft with 5-ft alleys between blocks. Two rows in each plot were treated leaving the third row as a buffer between contiguous plots. Treatments were applied using a CO2 backpack sprayer adjusted to deliver 10 gal of solution/acre through 2 TX-8 hollow cone nozzles per row at 35 psi and 3 mph. Treatments were made 16 and 21 Jul. Mites were counted in the field, on 16 (pretreatment), 20 and 25 Jul by examining 1 sq inch of leaf undersurface on 25 leaves per plot for the presence of adult female mites. The fourth leaf from the top of a randomly chosen plant was selected and the number of adult female mites were counted and recorded with the aid of a 1 OX “linen tester” lens centered on the leaf nectary.
