Abstract

Academic library construction projects are complex undertakings, best conducted by an integrated team composed of architect, builder, owner's representative (OR, also called clerk of works), and the library director. Whether the institution selects a traditional design-bid-build strategy, or the newer design-build approach, OR and the library director are key players from design-development through building commissioning. The outcome of any project stands a better chance of meeting or exceeding expectations if a cohesive team is in place from the outset.
