Abstract

A like-CORC based on the Quasi-isotropic (Q-IS) conductor, so called Q-IS_CORC consisting of CORC and Q-IS making from 2 G high temperature superconducting (HTS) tapes, is investigated in terms of AC losses by combining experimental with numerical methods. A new type of a like-CORC conductor is presented and is good bending performance as well as easy to manufacture in long lengths. Moreover, this paper focuses on understanding its influence on AC losses and provides a method for reducing the AC losses. A novelty of this paper is the use of a new T-A formulation (Accelerated T-A formulation), which, for the first time, is employed for 3D modeling of CORC cable and used to study AC losses. The influence of twisting on AC losses was verified by simulation. Then, the optimal pitch length is found to reduce AC losses.
