Abstract
Electromagnetic measurements for AC losses of single pancake BSCCO coils and tapes have been performed experimentally as a function of reinforcement material, number of turns and AC current. Two coils have been prepared with using isolated Bi2Sr2Ca2Cu3O10/Ag (BSCCO) tape produced by Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. For the experimental tests, the pancake coil is immersed in liquid nitrogen bath. The critical current Icp is determined. The transport AC loss has been measured by electromagnetic and calorimetric method using a lock-in amplifier. In electromagnetic method, the signal from 1) whole coil voltage, 2) the pair of taps placed in the 1/3 outer turn and 3) 3 cm long contactless loop placed in the 1/3 outer turn making a C shaped loop, are measured. Increasing the number of turns in the pancake increases the dissipation per unit length of the tape.
