Abstract
Perpetrators of child sexual abuse create many problems for professionals working in the area of therapy and rehabilitation. My therapeutic work often brings me into contact with adult survivors of such abuse. For many of these survivors a central issue is understanding why the abuser chose them as a focus for sexual activity. Personal Construct Psychology is based on the individual's perspective of the world and gives the opportunity to explore similarities and differences between each person's experience of abuse — in this case the perpetrator and the survivor. This paper will explore a few aspects of Personal Construct Ppsychology and examine how the approach can be used to demonstrate the views held by some perpetrators of child sexual abuse and their victims.
