Abstract

The dramatic structure in poetry means theemployment of as much as possible of the elements ofdrama such as time, place, action, characters, conflict andthe actual use of dramatic verbs and poetic images. Thoughdramatic elements can be generally found in any poetictext, what is meant by the dramatic structure here is theconscious and intentional existence, i.e. the poetintentionally uses the dramatic values and makes themevidently functional to develope his poem's structure anddeepen its poetic expression. These dramatic elements mayappear in the poetic work without affecting the form of thepoetic genre or changing it into a play, for instance. Thismeans that a poem remains a poem whatever dramaticelements were employed in it. Hakim Al-Dawudi's poetry isrich with the elements of the dramatic structure whichdeepens movement, action, dramatic development and thelinguistic and imagist conflict. In this paper some of hispoems of dramatic nature are selected for analysis from histwo collections The Time of Love and A Time as Stranger.
